Moon Mountain District

A steep, high-elevation AVA established in 2013 within the folds of Sonoma Valley's western hills, Moon Mountain District is defined by iron-rich, rocky volcanic soils across elevations running roughly from 400 to 2,400 feet. Historic plantings like the Monte Rosso vineyard, farmed since the 1880s, have grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel on this mountainside for generations, producing wines of notable structure and mineral drive. Sitting above the fog line that moderates the valley floor below, it trades Sonoma Valley's coastal calm for something closer to true mountain fruit.
