Yountville

Established in 1999 and named for George Yount, who in 1836 became the first American settler granted land in Napa Valley, this appellation sits low on the valley floor where gravelly silt loam and alluvial clay meet cooling fog and breeze pulled up from San Pablo Bay. That moderation tempers what would otherwise be a warm site, giving Yountville's dominant Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot a polish and approachability distinct from its hotter neighbors upvalley.
