St. Helena

Established in 1995, St. Helena occupies a narrow stretch of valley floor pinched between the Mayacamas and Vaca ranges, where reduced fog intrusion makes it one of Napa's warmest appellations — at times hotter than Calistoga to its north. Some 21 distinct soil types, from volcanic ash to sedimentary loam, support the valley's densest concentration of vineyard acreage and a broad range of reds from Cabernet Sauvignon to old-vine Zinfandel.
