Spring Mountain District

Approved in 1993, Spring Mountain District rises from 400 to 2,100 feet on the eastern face of the Mayacamas, its soils split nearly evenly between sedimentary sandstone and Sonoma Volcanics andesite — a mix that distinguishes it from neighboring mountain AVAs. The resulting Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot lean structured and mineral, shaped by thin soils and a mostly eastern exposure that moderates the harshest afternoon heat.
