Mount Veeder

Recognized in 1990, Mount Veeder is a geological outlier: an uplifted slab of ancient seafloor, its sandstone and shale soils shot through with volcanic material only at the highest reaches, unlike the volcanic soils that dominate most of Napa. Vineyards planted between 1,000 and 2,400 feet yield thin topsoil and low vigor, producing a mountain Cabernet Sauvignon known for firm, structured tannins built for the cellar.
