Napa Valley · Appellation
Los Carneros
Established in 1983, Los Carneros was California's first AVA defined by climate rather than political lines, straddling the Napa-Sonoma county border just above San Pablo Bay. Clay-heavy Haire and Diablo soils and near-daily morning fog keep the region the coolest in Napa through the growing season, ideal terrain for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wine rather than the valley's signature Cabernet.
