Coombsville

The newest of Napa's sub-AVAs, designated in December 2011, Coombsville occupies the eroded remnant of an ancient volcanic caldera just east of Napa city. Rocky, low-vigor volcanic loam and near-constant exposure to San Pablo Bay fog and breeze keep the district markedly cool, yielding a Cabernet Sauvignon built on structure and red-fruited restraint rather than the valley's more common power.
